Life and early career

Gumbs' talent was spotted by the Newtown community, while he was attending the Newtown Primary School (now the Tucker/Clarke Primary School). His talent was monitored and nurtured as he moved on to the Basseterre Junior High (now the Washington Archilbald High School) and then to the Basseterre Senior High where he finished his schooling.
